FAQ
Does my HTML leave the browser? Formatting and validation run locally. A URL in the input box is the exception: the browser requests that address directly, and the remote host can refuse the request.
Why did a URL fail? Most sites omit the CORS headers a browser page needs. View the page source and paste it, or save the file and drop it in instead.
What does Fix HTML change? It closes unclosed tags, drops stray closing tags and duplicate attributes, closes empty self-closing elements like <div />, and escapes a bare < in text. Duplicate ids are reported but never changed.
Why is <li> without </li> not an error? HTML lets some end tags be left out, including those for li, p, td, tr, and option. The validator accepts them and the formatter writes them out.
Will formatting change how my page looks? Whitespace between inline elements is kept, and text only wraps at spaces that were already there. Whitespace inside block elements like div and p is tidied, which browsers ignore anyway.
